Photo by Martha Vercoutere (Juanita Sphinx)
"Edgewood Park in Redwood City is about halfway between San Francisco and San Jose, California. I have a digital camera and we were out photographing wild flowers (to help me remember their names). I had just taken a telephoto shot of a flower some distance away. (following the rules and not stepping off the path.) So the camera was in prime set up mode to catch the Juanita Sphinx in action when my friend excitedly started to jump up and down and point at it.
The Juanita Sphinx was in grasslands on a hill side kind of close to some Live Oak woodlands. It was drinking out of a "Blue Dick: Dichelostemma capitatum". We will have to keep our eyes out to see if there are more around in the future!"
