Las Vegas

Photos by Steve and Connie (White-lined Sphinx Moth)

I thought you might like to see the White Lined Sphinx moths we get here in Las Vegas, NV. They can be in almost plague proportions in some years. These examples were lurking over the back fence to our yard. The local residents' association has some kind of honeysuckle like ground cover out there.

Tens of thousands of moths, mostly White Lined Sphinxes are attracted to the huge light on top of the Luxor hotel. Many fly into the gallery where the light is and die. However, many of those flying around in the massive column of light are snapped up by birds! It seems the birds now know the moths will be there.
